Did you get the ^^^ improved code supporting higher ICH than ICH2 as noted in the comments ? In the mid term, I use VDMsound. Virtual Sound Blaster In v86 mode, there are int xxh calls that can arrange I/O port trapping and emulation which should help with 16-bit real mode games and applications.

Wont such games run on Win95??? he's done some great work with it. VESA VBE/AI was a good idea, sadly that because of various reasons it didn't become a standard. There was once a IBM PC clone called "Tandy"; it had a built-in 3-voice synthesizer (similar to those found in early game consoles).
