Ironically, DOS is often called "dead and crap and useless", yet people (id, Sierra) still sell and make money off it (and MS will still whine "in 2009!" if you download If you have any dos installation files for a soundcard which should be listed here (for example, you have used it successfully with converter) let us know. Unclear on my part is how to make this work with DOS extenders. In v86 mode, there are int xxh calls that can arrange I/O port trapping and emulation which should help with 16-bit real mode games and applications.
The purpose for intercepting int 67h VCPI is to manipulate the environment for DOS extenders (such as dos4gw), in such a way so that they also use the SB emulation code. It looks like it came new with drivers to cover both MS DOS ver 6 (w/o Windows) and Windows 95 (DOS ver 7). http://ionicbalance.net/sound-blaster/dos-drivers-sound.html I think it only supported up to ICH 5, but this subject has gotten me interested in doing an update to it, and I have access to a few newer boards vogons.org will not be held responsible for users' posts. The processor may execute too many instructions after I/O port operation, before interrupt processing occurs.
Sometimes going all the way is just a start...
Maybe it'll be easier to emulate a wavetable sample - more like requesting the stored instruments in a SC-55 for eg., than emulating a FM synthesis?
